Fax you are correct .. there were a couple of additional steps to the resolution .. and the problem is now solved. Here is a summary of the resolution steps:
1. Uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials
2. Completely remove the current ZA application from you computer using the special removal tool at: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe
3. Download a clean, current copy of ZA from the website and install it.
