Thread: zonealarm malicious uninstall?

    Default zonealarm malicious uninstall?

I discovered on booting today that zonealarm had been uninstalled either unintentionally or maliciously. I have reinstalled but am worried about malicious software/hacker. Anyone ever heard of this? I am running AVG antivirus check now. It is always possible that I somehow did a "typo" that uninstalled it, but hard to imagine. thanks

No, never heard of it... probably ZA got corrupted on the way or may be unintentionally removed. If the system is used by more users it is useful to create different accounts with limited user authorisations.

Good info, but not applicable. No one else has access to my machine, unless someone broke into house to uninstall zonealarm ;-) AVG found nothing so I am going to assume the uninstall wasn't malicious, say a prayer, and pay my bills. I had a machine mega-compromised once - found it was running a hacker's tookit. Left me justifiably paranoid. Thanks for help.

    You're welcome!

If you want to check your system for malware presence than please have a look to the malware guidance sticky post in the malware section. There are several free tools you can use to check. You may also want to think on moving from free solution to retail solutions to increase your protection scope.

    Thanks,
