    Default [SOLVED] Malware/Virus confused/desparate.

My laptop started warning me that I had malware/virus and it automatically started a scan useing what appeared to be Win 7 Anit-spyware which I usually keep disabled because I have Zonealarm equivalent.

I was surprised that it found 29 Trojans/worms etc because I have always kept my ZA up to date and scan.

The Win 7 anti-spyware kept insisting that I turn on Win 7 anti-spyware and register it and do a clean up. I also got a full screen warning notice saying how important it was to protect my family and friends from viruses etc, I thought the wording of this message did not ring true as it seemed a bit Eastern European rather than American english.

I ignored this as I was suspicious that it was leading me to a disreputable site. Eventually it disabled my net connection and then shut my laptop down.

I rebooted in 'safe mode' but got same sort of thing again and no connection. Am I being paranoid about this and should I follow the registration instructions or what?

    Hi!
unfortunately you fall under the trap of a fake antivirus.

Never ever beleive any pop-up telling you are infected unless they come from ZA .They are fake... just close them. Do no install any third party file to clean these fake infections.... you will be trapped in an extorsion system that will ask you money for non existent threads.

You should try to follow ALL steps as indicated here:
    Malware Clean-up Guidance

You also have specific guidance on those family of fake antiviruses here:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/viru...tispyware-2011

Finally follow the steps below to better protected next time:
xyz was not detected. What I should do?

Thanks Fax, Carried out first suggest on the link you gave me. About 50% through super scan, 6 infections detected so left laptop to finish off. Next time I looked scan had finished but no report left on infections found etc.

Started a new super scan and this time it went right through without detecting any infections. Rebooted but infections were still there.

Cannot do other checks as suggested in the article because infection is stopping me get on line. Any suggestions now please.

If the above fails than post your logs at spywarehammer or bleeping computer (link to these sites here), volounteers will guide you hand in hand to the cleaning of your system

Thanks Fax, followed the instructions in your link and it worked a treat. Could not get mbam to download a clean-up program but used Superantispyware instead.

    Many thanks for your help.
