    Default Problems with Messengers

If i am logged in to my msn or yahoo messengers, none of my friends can see me as being on line. How do I fix this, have un-installed and reinstalled both with no luck. Running XP with most of updates. There must be something I need to open or re-set.....
I can use both, but no one can see when online
    Thank you

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details about your computer and Software that you failed to provide, without our ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

    *** NOTICE:

It is normally Helpful when posting here to give full details of your computer setup.

Give the Exact Type and version of Zone Alarm used
, Windows Version used, other security tools installed. is this a First time install?
Stopped working recently? other issues? Error messages in the ZA logs?

The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

also is this a DeskTop, Laptop computer or Netbook.

Please List any other Security Programs installed as these programs may be conflicting with Zone Alarm.

Does not sound like a ZA issue.

Easy to check, go to the ZA icon near the clock --> right click on it --> Choose "shutdown ZA...". Wait a couple of minutes and now launch MSN messenger or yahoo.

Does it work now? Do they see you? If not, it is not ZA. Probably a router issue?

I will give that a try, next time I can.

Just know back a little bit ago was a problem
with ZA not allowing msn to work at all, but that was on
an update a couple years ago, why I asked.....

But will give this a try, and was thinking on buying
another router anyways.....course always could be
    Comcast also....?????

    Thanks again
    let you know

The problem you refer to was long time ago. ZA can hardly conflict with instant messaging nowadays since fetaures like IM security of privacy protection have been removed.

Sorry don't know comcast, so not sure how it works with them. Better to check directly before purchasing a new router.

    Hello,

Fax is correct the MSN issue was ages ago.

Besides if you can login to both those messenger then ZA is not blocking it.

Its impossible for ZA to only block you from being seen on any IM program.

If your issue was you couldn't login to an IM program then it more believable its a possible ZA issue.

This is an issue with the IM program or the PC.

I was able to fix my problem by completely unistalling ZA and doing a defrag and a reboot. Now things (messengers) work as they should....but
It did not clear all the links or programs listed in list. But guess that is a small price to pay

Thats about the oddest thing I ever heard that a Defrag allowed you to be seen on an IM program.

Good you tried that because support never would have. It would be considered a waste of time by support and most users too for us to suggest doing that.

But good your up and running now.
