    Default Zone Alarm UI

I have just updated my copy of ZA Free.

It appears to be working OK as I can see it operating in the system tray.

Howvere, when I try to open the Control Centre all I get is a window showing the blue zone alarm banner at the top and nothing else apart from the word ? Help in the bottom left hand corner. No normal details of the control centre are showing at all.

Can anyone help as to why this is happening?

    Thanks

    Roy

NOTE: you could try resetting the database files by
Holding down on the CTRL+SHIFT keys and right clicking the Z icon in the system toolbar and select the RESET option and follow onscreen directions.

    Hi George

Thanks for that. Unfortunately that has made no difference. And to boot I have now lost all my settings.

The control centre just does not show up so I cannot set up any other trusted zones etc.

Please help - this is now very urgent.

    Many thanks

    Roy

try to fully remove ZA with the ZA removal tool:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe

Then double check all files of ZA are gone, see below for a list of forlder to check and clean (assuming you are using XP):
I cannot find or run the ZoneAlarm uninstall program (XP/2000)

    Re-download a fresh ZA copy
    www.zonealarm.com/zadownload/

Shutdown any other security tool installed and instal Fresh download of ZAl.

does not work. Do you have another one for this?

    Thanks

    The link works fine.

This point to additional problems on your system. Running other security tools? Have you checked your hosts file? Is it empty?

    Thanks for that.

My hosts file has been modified in accordance with http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/

However I can pick it up from another pc.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I still have not been able to uninstall zone alarm.

One question I do have is that I notice that the Virtual Machine that I have on this PC is still working so the settings for Zone Alarm must still be in place.

Before I do the uninstall is there any way I can save my settings just in case the uninstall and reinstall does not fix the problem??

I would like to be able to restore the file that holds the settings after the re-install if the problem does not go away.

    Many thanks

Please note that ZA does not support VM installs.
Your host file is black listing legit sites and there is no easy and reliable way to back up the ZA settings in the free version (only in retail).
