Default Local file path problem during & after VPN connection

I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium system, latest updates (as of this posting) running Zonealarm Internet Security Suite version 9.3.037.0000.

Here's my problem. When I connect to my company's SBS 2003R2 server via PPTP VPN, I soon encounter a problem where most of my local system files become inaccessible, as though the system path becomes invalid. The typical messages for running a local file, such as notepad.exe for example, are "Windows can not access specified device, file, or path. You may not have the appropriate permission to access this item."

I've attempting resetting Zonealarm via the system tray icon methodology, done a complete uninstall/reinstall of ZA, but still experience this issue.

Any ideas what might be going on here? I've read of similar issues with earlier versions of ZA and never had this problem myself in years past until recently.

Sounds like a VPN/OS setup/issue rather than ZA.
Have you tried to connect to VPN with ZA been shutdown? If you get the same problem it is not ZA.

No, the system (and VPN) function correctly when ZA is disabled. The pathing issue appears to be specific to ZA.

Have you tried to add all relevant IPs to the ZA trusted zone?

You may want to check the user manual under troubleshooting.
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/me...ser_manual.pdf

Finally you can contact ZA official support to check if they have any clue of the problem.

Also try to move up to version 10 (remove ZA 9 before) to see if the issue still applies.

    Thanks,

With earlier ZA it was always mandatory to install the VPN client after ZA.
That required uninstalling VPN client (if existed), installing ZA, installing VPN so that it could pick up ZA drivers properly.
Might be the same situation here. Just a guess

I know Cisco VPN had to be like that. There were even official instructions to that effect on the ZA site.
I used Nortel client VPN on WindowsXP. Same story. That was in ZA v7 and I think v8.

But access to local, i.e. in your company, files was limited by permissions made by the admins at the company. I had permission to administer sections of one internal server. That all worked great. Any other mapped directories were not permitted while on VPN. Not related to ZA.

End of rambling. In case might help here
