    Angry Unable to turn off AV scan schedule

    Hi,
    I just installed ZA Extreme version on my pc using 7 64 bit OS.
    I set up scheduled auto scan to weekly, but each time I log in, it does a quick scan!
    I tried to turn off the scheduled scan, but after reseting it becomes active again and does a quick scan!
    I tried turning the win scheduler service off by going to run>services.msc both in my user account and administrator.. but I noticed the option for switching to auto, manual disable mode and... is greyed out!

    So, I googled and found some registry tricks to turn the service into the disable mode. I went to a registry thread and turned it off by setting the value to 4.

    But, desperately after reseting the system, ZA is just doing the same foolish scan again!!
    I'm terrible getting fed up with that.

    Did I just waste my money on ZA or, that's OK?

    Any immediate tip would be appreciated before other security softwares convince me they are better than ZA!

    This Forum exist to allow Volunteer experienced Zone Alarm Users to help the Few Users who encounter a problem with ZoneAlarm and need to be guided in the right direction..

    It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, or around the World,
    without All the Details about your computer and Software that you failed to provide, without our ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

    is this a First time install?
    Stopped working recently?
    any other issues?
    any Error messages in the ZA logs?

    The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

    also is this a DeskTop, Laptop computer or Netbook.

    If this is a Laptop?

    When a scan does not finish the scheduler never updates so it thinks there is an outstanding scan to do thus a scan every time you re-boot.

    I just upgraded from previous ZA version.
    I'm using ZA on my PC as I mentioned before.
    No any other issue
    No error in log

    ZoneAlarm ForceField Anti-Phishing Database: 1.2.104.0
    ZoneAlarm ForceField Spyware Sites Database: 04.155

    OS : Windows 7 64 bit fully updated
    No other security software installed, and UAC center is off

    I think theres is something wrong with windows scheduler service. Kind of interposition between ZA and Windows scheduler service.
    ZA does not allow me to turn it off, so it' been greyed out, And after reseting my PC. The scheduled scan becomes active in ZA setting while apparently is off in Windows services panel! I searched the Internet and found so many people with the same problem.

    Should I do a clean installation?
    I'm going to contact the technical section.
    I've been using ZA products for about 10 years buying through Paypal.

    Same problem on my desktop and netbook, even after setting the scan times for the longest periods of time (every year, every 6 months etc) the suite is still scanning my system around three times a day and there's no option to turn off the scheduler, it's lowering performance and draining battery life, really irritating having to turn the damn scan off everytime it decides to start up again

    I noticed with 10.0.240.000 that I had scans running shortly after I booted every time. I noticed in tools -> scheduled tasks that the quick scan (set to every 3 days) was never being updated even when the scans completed successfully. Thus there was always a quick scan to be run.

    I contacted support, and was first instructed to reset to defaults. The problem continued and I was then instructed to collect/send diagnostic information to support. I have heard nothing since then.

    I recently upgraded to 10.0.243 with a clean install and am waiting to see if I see the same behavior of the date not being updated after scans complete. I have a few more days to go before seeing if the date gets adjusted after a scan.

    that issue has already been answered by the Forum Moderator in this same Topic area a few messages above your post..

    1. The virus scan starting on reboot of your system is not normal behavior.
    You can contact support about this. They will probably collect your logs for it.

    2. The ability to disable scheduled scans is broken and is a known bug.


    3. This is as designed. If you DISABLE product updates its disabled through out the software.

    If we allow manual updates we have a bunch of users complaining that its not a true disabled function. With either way some one is not going to like its behavior and we decided to implement its functionality in this manner and will be staying like this.
