    LOL - too right...!
Quick update: I'm definitely getting there. Just started to turn each app on one by one, to see which ones are the conflicts.
I realised last night that I may have been fighting against myself for the past couple of days, with having System Restore turned on. Now turned off, and I know I've found a couple of possible app conflicts, both of which look at the Mobo and Hard Drives - Probe2 and HDI.
As smss.exe is the last memory process scanned, before the scan shifts to the Boot Sector of the RAID, having something like HDI in the equation and causing a stall kind of makes sense.
    Laters.

    YAY!!!!!!

Done it....! This ZASS simply HATES finding stuff in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers folder - especially stuff that is obsolete...!

Gave that a spring-clean, plus all of the other Device Drivers' folders using the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices =1 doodad-thingy-wossit. Also went through Windows Services, and stopped a whole load of irrelevant stuff like wireless management (this is a non-wireless desktop!), remote registry access (!) - and Apple services - I don't own an Apple ipod etc....!

Finally, I deleted the most insidious program that I've ever come across - BT Desktop Helper, aka "Motive". It came with my FTTC (Fibre To The Curb) router - but I had NO idea that it was such an invasive program, logging all kinds of events including ZA up and downloads. There was some kind of "Mcci" monitoring process plus a driver in that N-PPD folder that was causing all kinds of issues. Google has similar stories of this being packaged with Verizon in the past, as well as with other ISP's "help" programs.

So - why me...? Well, how many people with ZASS, plus an XP RAID with my specific Nvidia RAID drivers, plus BT FTTC...? Maybe I've just been caught in a "Perfect Storm" scenario...?

Whatever - it's working now. YAY! 10.1.052 worked, and now so does 10.1.056.

And even the Internet Protected error on boot has disappeared....!

Thanks for all of your help - and criticism, guys.
I've learned one **** of a lot over the past 2 weeks.

    And lastly, thanks for reading.

    Bye bye.
