Default [SOLVED] firewall access attempts blocked

I have Windows XP (sp3) and downloaded the new ZA Ver. 10 last week. After a few rocky days, things seem to be working. What bothers me is the firewall continues to show "zero attempts blocked", even after I had Gibson do a leak test which indicated all ports are secure. My old ZA ver. 9 reported every time my modem tried to access my computer. Should I be concerned that I've been running over a week and, according to ZA, nothing has tried to access my computer?

Good chance the new install has the modem/and or router set in the trustd zone. Hence no more unwanted attempts. GRC test could have been testing the modem/router and not the computer's firewall.
    Best regards.

Thanks much for the info. On further checking I believe you are right that both the modem and network are both trusted. Still not sure about the Gibson test not causing any log entries but will wait and see.

GRC sheilds up tests a firewall but it does not discriminate as to which firewall will be tested - usually the modem (often with it's own firewall) or the router will be seen first by the GRC's shields up port scan. Thus the hardware firewalls are tested, as the computer (and it's software firewall) itself is never seen by the public internet or by the port scanner.

Since your NAT router is the first line of defense for incoming traffic. You should check your router's logs. You'll see ShieldsUP access attempts blocked in those logs and not in ZoneAlarm.

The logs can be accessed from your routerís management interface which can be accessed through the web browser.

Most likely you will only see outgoing traffic blocked in ZoneAlarm Firewall logs since your NAT router is blocking incoming traffic.

I don't have a router. Just an old (2007) modem. Never have been able to communicate with it so no idea if it has its own firewall. I rather doubt it.

It is possible the modem does have either a firewall or NAT.

Easiest way to check is with the ipconfig /all command - it will show you what ip is used by your computer; either an ip that is public or an ip of a private network.

lcmuhlick, Not sure what to suggest to you.I tried the following.Maybe this might help.

Since Zone Alarm two-way software firewall protecting inbound and outbound attacks.I bypass my Nat router and connected direct to plain non-NAT modem, ipconfig /all confirm router bypassed.

    Using the following settings.

    Firewall :
    Public Zone on High
    Trusted Zone on Med.

    Application Control :
    Set to Max on Network
    Set to Manual on DefenseNet

    Alerts & Logs :
Main / Alert Events Shown set to High
Alert Events set to Check All

Checked ShieldsUP Common Ports TruSteslth Analysis " Passed ".

In ZoneAlarm Advanced Firewall 23 access attempts blocked.Log Viewer confirms this in Firewall log.

Footnote : Not sure if this settings in ZoneAlarm Free version.Using ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version: 10.1.065.000

    Have no other suggestions.

I ran the ipconfig /all and from what I can tell my ip address begins with 192 which should put it in the private network range. Still not sure what this means? Does this tell me my modem has some kind of built in firewall?

Yes, 192.168.... Means its your modem answering to incoming calls and not ZA. Your setup is OK and ZA empty firewall log is normal with this setup as Oldsod hinted to you
