Thread: I changed the Scan Timers run wrong scans, etc.

Default I changed the Scan Timers run wrong scans, etc.

I recently had a virus scare, and it brought up several issues with ZAAV:

    1. When timers expire, they run the wrong type of scan. I was trying to run a Normal or Deep scan, and before I found the controls, I tried fudging the timers for these scans. When the Normal timer went off, it ran a Quick scan. When the Deep timer went off, it ran a Quick scan. What up wit dat?

    2. Not all commands are on the menus. I only tried fudging the timers because I foolishly assumed any command would be found on the menus, and I couldn't find where to change the scan type (I eventually found it). Is this a new design philosophy? I've never run across it before.

    3. If I find a suspicious email or website, should I report it to ZA? How?

    Thanks. Here's my data:

    1. This is probably due to a bug in ZA for which, after one week the ZA Quick Ccan will kick off at every boot instead of the default every week. This will ovelap with any other scan that is scheduled and probably the cause of the behavior you are describing. As a work around you can set to quick scan (tool --> scheduling --> initial scan time) on a remote date to ensure it does not kick off at every boot.

    2. I am lost as to what you mean by "timers". Probably if you are more specific about which settings you mean I could try to answer it

    3. Normally not. You can report virus and malware files to kaspersky (the engine used in ZA) as indicated here. If you use outlook and you have the ZA antispam turned on, you can set the ZA outlook plug-in to report phishing attempt automatically.

    Hope this helps.

Please note that we are all users here, ZA staff does not monitor this board. For issue and potential bugs its important you report it directly to ZA technical support (link in my signature, live chat). More reports more likely the issue will be escalated to development team. No report, no fix.

The Random AV Scan was fixed by Deleting and un-installing your Current Zone Alarm and Install a Clean copy of Zone Alarm, accept the Default settings and do not restore saved setting..

Sticky: [FIXED] Auto-Scan on Windows start-up <== click here

PS: it is important to do a CLEAN install, and not an upgrade install..
