    Default ZASS New version 10.1.079

    Hello there,
I just downloaded latest ZASS version 10.1.079 and removed the old one using clean.exe and installed the 079 version on Windows XP home sp3.

Then I changed very few settings. One was to ask for internet connection permission for all programs.
This seems to be working for example when I click on Adobe reader and pick "check for updates", the ZASS 079 asks me if I allow or deny.
    Wonderful, this is great.
But when I click on the internet explorer icon on desktop it immediately goes to "Google" (my home page). Why doesn't stop and ask like the 9.3.037.000 version did for permission?
I have added "internet explorer executable (iexplorer.exe) to program listing and placed the ? mark on all inbound, outbound, etc.
Is this by design or am I setting something wrong?
I searched forum but was not successful in finding similar posting.

    Thanks in advance for replying.

    Mike

Thanks for the link - I guess I did not use proper search keywords.

Looks like it works. There are some questions if you don't mind me asking.

1- Looks like "remeber this setting" is always "checked" as default. Is there a way to make it "unchecked" as default, and checked by choice?

2- I am using paid ZASS 10.1.079.000 with valid activation. Your link showed free ZA 10.1.079.000. I guess free and paid versions are the same?

3- The reply link used words like "program control" or "smartdefense". The version I use has titles like "Application control" and "DefenseNet". Are these the same?

    Thanks again.

    1. I am not aware of an option of not having that feature UNticked by default.

The general approach is to discourage these type of approaches, the option was initially removed due to mistakes by users in configuration causing blockage/instability and then blaiming ZA for it. The baseline approach is to have a security tool to guard your system and protect from malware and harmful external threats and not having a tool to control or block legit/safe processes and/or applications. Development is therefore moving accordingly in this direction.

Injected or modified legit applications will anyway be blocked by the ZA OSfirewall. There is no risk of allowing a legit application and then have that moving around your system without control.

    2. I gave you that link for convenience, it just gave the information you needed for getting microsoft certified application blocked. ZAfree and ZASS have completely different capability and features. Here you have brief comparison between the free version and ZASS.

    3. Sorry, wording is inherited from previous versions (version 7,8 and 9). Difficult to get rid of them if you are used to.... They indeed mean the same

    Thanks,

    Thanks fax.
My concern is for non legitimate apps contacting the Internet and sending out information using "Internet Explorer". If ZASS blocks that, then I have no problem

    Thanks again.

Yes, exactly what I was referring to. You are already covered by the ZA OSfirewall.
