Default HP Printer Issues and ZA log interpretation

    aloha all,
I'm a newbie to this forum however have had ZA about 10 YRS.
I have a home LAN with 3 client PC's and a tablet all using a HP 6500 OfficeJet A-I-1 Printer, set up for wireless use. All client OS' is WIN7 x64, with the exception of the tablet. All client PC's are desktops and all have static IP's. The router is a LINKSYS E3200 "N". The only firewall software in use is ZA (10.0.250.000) however, the router has firewall settings.
My problem; The printer is operating with a sporadic change in status to "Use printer offline". This behavior seems to coincide with a ZA log incident. I've gone into the "Trusted Zone" and have entered the IP of the printer, all client PC's and the router, with now change in behavior. I've tried to turn ZA off to see if the printer will change status or act erratically but haven't been able to keep it off long enuf without losing my protection. I've got a long list of ZA log alerts that all seem to have the same title but I don't have any idea about how to interpret them, so here I am.
    Here's a sample of what I'm seeing

    1025,Host+Process+for+Windows+Services,svchost.exe ,6.1.7600.16385,Windows+7+x64-6.1.7601-Service+Pack+1-SMP,10.0.250.000,HP,~~snip~~,2,,&CL=en&OEM=1025&SKU=8&Mode=0&Product=ZoneAlarm+ Anti-virus
    FWOUT_OK,2012/01/20,05:35:10 -10:00 GMT,192.168.11.247:50891,192.168.11.205:161,UDP,http://fwalerts.zonealarm.com/fwaler...24427965112319

The 2 IP's following "GMT" is the IP of my primary client machine and the Printer. I have page after page of the same alert.
Can anyone help please...looking forward to all replies. sorry for the length of this question.

First thing to do is to upgrade to 10.1.079.000 at this link :

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...01_079_000.exe

    Release History :

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...l#10.1.079.000

Follow these instructions below to clean your computer of the old version and any conflicting 3rd party Security programs, then install a clean new copy of the current supported version of ZA 10.1.079.000 at this link :

How do I read the ZoneAlarm log files?

I can't print with ZoneAlarm Products running :

Look under Configure & Manage : Check that the following programs are in your firewall’s list of trusted applications; add any that are missing.

    • hpqkygrp.exe, located in C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin
    • hpqscnvw.exe, located in C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin
    • hpqste08.exe, located in C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin
    • hpqtra08.exe, located in C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin
    • hpqthb08.exe, located in C:\program files\HP\digital imaging\bin

    User Guide :

    Maybe this might help.

    aloha sky soldier,
Thanks for the list of things to do...
I downloaded the cleaner and ZA v.101_079.
I went into the control panel to reenter my license key and I get a message that my key license key "is not a valid license key".
B-T-W...Is the Anti-virus program packaged with the free V. of the FW? I was under the impression when we bought the antivirus protection we were also getting the firewall upgrade.
Where does the information state that v. 101_079 is compatible with WIN7?

Since you posted under the ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, I assumed that was the version you're using.

Footnote : I now see that it has being moved to the correct place in "ZoneAlarm Installation ".You can still use instructions in post # 2 to install correct version.

Read Release History for you're version and compatibly with WIN7.You can download you're paid version there also.

    aloha sky Soldier,
    U had to be "Airborn"
In your reply, you asked me to check on 5 hp.exe files for placement in the "Trusted Zone"
I have only 1 of 5, remembering that I chose not to load digital imaging believing it was "bloat" ware.
You indicated checking the trusted zone, the trusted zone in my V (10.1.079) for WIN7 antivirus/fw, doesn't have the ability to add that kind of info. I can add them within the "Application Control" settings, but if they're not loaded it won't do any good.
Is it your belief that these are critical for ZA to play nice with HP???

I would advise for you to read the User Guide to configure you're printer.Look under Configure & Manage to work with firewalls under User Guide. It may require to open ports in the firewall for it to work, can only do that on paid versions

Sorry have run out of suggestions.

Smile Re: HP Printer Issues and ZA log interpretation

Aloha sky soldier and all others,
because this computer did not have the 5 exe files mentioned in the HP User manual that sky soldier referred me to, I un-installed the printer and all software and scoured the registry, etc. and re-installed the full software package. No deletions.
I did another search of the computer files and folders and found that I'm missing 2 of the 5 listed files.
I went to the HP FORUM seeking help from them to get the missing files.
sky soldier you've been a huge help and this has reminded me to look at the user manuals before I get started in my complaints.
    thanks again,
    konadon
