Default I have a speed problem with security suite & Vista SP2

Laptop, Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2
    Dual core 1,9 ghz
    4 mb RAM
loads of space on the hard disc, and have done all the usual administrative deletions, defrag etc etc
No other security running on the laptop

I'm not sure when it started happening exactly, but the laptop is running like a dog when security suite is on. I know its the software, because when I switch it off the laptop runs quite normally. As soon as I switch it on again ... well, it takes a minute at least to open picture files and when I'm using Bibble, or photoshop it's as good as unusable. Had a few messages saying that programs have stopped working as well ... only when ZA is on though.

So now whaen I work on it, I have to switch off the internet and close down ZA.

Its updated, I have no problem with scans. What can suddenly be causing this, as nothings changed that I know of on the computer

Part of the speed problem may be that your Laptop does not meet the Minimum System Requirements for CPU

Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 Business / Home Premium / Ultimate:
    • 32-bit / 64-bit, 2 GB RAM
    • 2 GHz or faster processor
    • 250MB of available hard-disk space

    32-bit / 64-bit, 2 GB RAM - Thats OK :-)
2 GHz or faster processor - Well, yes 1.9 so not quite there
    250MB of available hard-disk space - I have about 200 GB free

    Thanks for that
Ive had this laptop with Vista preloaded and regularly updated for years though, and Ive not had a speed problem before. Its only been of recent, probably a month to two months ... has anything changed drastically ... apart from my renewal :-)

I would first check its a ZA problem by booting selectively:

    1.) Click Start
2.) Type MSConfig in the search box and click ENTER
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZATray and forcefield
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

Slow? If not, its not ZA

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the General tab.

If it is still slow I would try first to reset the ZA settings and see if there is any improvement. (tools --> preferences --> Reset to default --> reboot).

If the above fails you could try to fully remove ZA from VISTA uninstall a program. Then download the latest version of ZA from here:
Looking for the latest version? and install with default settings (do not load any previous backup of the settings)

You could also be infected by malware, especially if you need to always turn off the antivirus protection. A check is in order. See here:
