Default [SOLVED] Vsdatant.sys causing random bluescreens =>Clean install of New ZA Free

About two weeks ago I started randomly getting BSOD caused by Vsdatant.sys. I am currently running ZAFree on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and have been running it since last July without a problem until now. I didn't change any settings or install anything new so I don't really know why it would all of the sudden just start.

I ran Bluescreen View and it pointed at Vsdatant.sys. I have gotten the same BSOD about 3-4 times since it started. Any solutions?

Exact version of ZAfree? Right click the ZA icon near the clock --> about --> paste it here in a reply.

I would first try to update to the latest version of ZAfree and start clean.

i.e. First fully remove your ZA from windows 7 "unistall a program". Reboot. Check that Windows 7 firewall in ON. Download the latest version from here:http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
    (we are at 10.1.101.000).

Install latest ZA, ZA will take care of turning OFF windows firewall.

Normally if you get vsdatant.sys BSOD it means that kernel is getting too messy with drivers hooking at it. These are commonly other security tools or malware. Double check that the system is exactly the same as it was when you had no problem. A simple update of your antivirus software, for example, may have introduced the incompatibility. Some software updates will install even without you knowing it.

If you still have problems with the latest version try to boot the system selectively to see if you can find the culprit of the conflict. First only ZA and then slowly the rest by group of 3 or 4 executables/services at time.

    1.) Click Start
2.) Type MSConfig in the search box and click ENTER
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZATray and forcefield
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the General tab.

    Thanks,

I updated to the newest version of ZAFree and haven't had a problem since. The update completely wiped my old version and did a fresh install and that seemed to fix the problem. I guess something must have corrupted the old driver I had...but I haven't had a problem for almost a week now so thanks for the help!
