    Angry [SOLVED] Security scan hangs on .LNK files --> Removed the corrupted files

    Hi,

    After a reboot the zone alarm security scan starts (quick scan option) up but appears to 'hang' - the view scan option shows no activity, yet the application is stating it's running.

    Any ideas how to fix?

    Zone alarm security suite ver 10.0.246.000
    driver ver 10.0.0.217.000
    AV engine 8.1.8.79

    Hi;

    That was a known problem for a few users with your very old security suite ver 10.0.246.000,
    You will need to Uninstall it and do a Clean install of the Current ZA Security Suite 10.1.079.000

    Follow these instructions Below to clean your computer of the old version and any conflicting 3rd party Security programs, then install a clean new copy of the current supported version of ZA 10.1.079.000

    The instruction for a clean install are below,

    1. Download the latest ZA version <== click here

    2. Remove your current ZA version (in XP use Windows add/remove programs)

    3. Remove other security tools installed. Use http://www.appremover.com/ to double check no left overs are present.

    4. Clean your system and registry withthe Free Ccleaner.exe
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

    5. Download to your desktop and run the ZA removal tool, now reboot after running ZA Removal tool.

    6. Install the latest ZA version without touching any default settings,
    and Do Not Restore Save Settings from the old install.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the advice. Have removed the old version of ZA, followed the steps posted and undertaken a clean install of the latest version - problem still occurs - scans still hanging after reading around 1700 files if manually started - and just hangs if application initiated ?

    Any help appreciated.

    Run the scan in SAFE MODE with NETWORKING and see if it still hangs. If not, you have something in normal mode locking files or access to HD.

    Thanks,

    Before you contact support on this issue they will need to know the file it hangs on.

    If it does not hang on the same file each time then there nothing support can do to help Besides what help has been given here already.

    It must be hanging on same file or its more of a PC issue just crashing.

    Hi,

    As suggested, I ran the ZASS in safe mode and all was OK.

    However, still hanging when running in normal PC mode and always on a desktop .LNK file - I delete offending shortcut file and restart the PC and it hangs on another .LNK file?

    Don't believe a .LNK file will (can) block disk access?

    Thanks for any help

    Hi;

    a.) It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, or around the World,

    c.) Considering that if the issue is not linked to a ZA issue and most likely due to an Windows OS corruption then a full format and reinstall of the OS should resolve the issue.

    If you are really keen to keep using ZA and want to follow the route of format the HD then you should follow these instructions:

    1. Reformat the HD and Install Windows
    2. Turn ON the windows firewall and connect to internet
    3. Go to microsoft updates and download all updates and Service Packs up to when you are fully updated (it will require several re-boot and several re-checking
    4. Download and install ZA Download the latest ZA version <== click here
    5. Check everything is working fine
    6. Install the rest of your programs..

    Normally not unless these are broken or locked by something or the OS is corrupted. Try this (for windows XP, In win7 the calling of MSCONFIG is slightly different):

    1.) Click Start -> Run
    2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
    3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
    4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZAtray and forcefield
    5.) Click the Services Tab
    6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
    7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
    Monitor and ForceField, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

    Now keep testing, then if no problem occurs start enabling back those UNchecked items by group of three or four starting from the services and the moving to the startup section up to when you find the culprit.

    NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
    going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

    My ZAX is doing the exact same thing. The scan hangs on a .lnk file. I too have run a successful scan in safe mode. I've tried doing a complete clean uninstall and reinstall several times but the problem remains.
