    Default switching off real-time protection

I cannot find any information on what anti-virus does if real-time protection is switched off. With real-time protection on, I get 3 choices in On-access settings, but none of them seem to be what I want.

I do a lot of copying partitions between drives and between computers on my LAN, and I get the impression that the antivirus is checking every file during those copies. This is pointless and wasteful.

I want browser downloads and incoming email attachments scanned and that's all. Is this possible ?

You can exclude the files from the 'on-access' scanning under the advanced settings of the antivirus/antispyware section (Exceptions)

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/in...xceptions.html

You can exclude the files from the 'on-demand' scanning under the advanced settings of the antivirus/antispyware section (Scan target)

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/in...antargets.html

    Configuring on-access scanning :

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/in..._onaccess.html

Whichever e-mail program you use with ZoneAlarm will always check e-mails and attachments 'on access' (i.e. when you open them).

Advanced Download Protection : Automatically analyzes your downloads to determine if they are safe or malicious. Includes an advanced security check that runs and analyzes the download in a protected environment.

Since I'm out of suggestions here and if you still need help and have current valid license contact Support :

BTW : The three upper links from clicking Help (ZoneAlarm Help Center).

    Thanks for that.
    That's a bit counter-intuitive/user-unfriendly.
"Do it (except when I say elsewhere not to do it)".
A link to the relevant Exclusions dialog next to the choice might help.

Quick Scan, scans only common Windows folders and startup folders that are typically used by hackers to place malware.Regardless of the folders you select as your Scan Targets. It will override your Scan Target settings in this mode.

Run Quick Scan to see what is being scan. Those can't be override.

    Choosing a scan mode :

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/in...scanmodes.html

Also read ' Note ' beneath Choose a Scan Mode:

Note - Your Scan Mode settings override your Scan Target settings. For example, regardless of the folders you select as your Scan Targets, if Quick Scan is your scan mode, then the only folders scanned are Windows and startup folders.

Any of the other two modes will work with Scan Targets.

I have no other suggestion to offer. If you still need help and have current valid license contact Support :
