Thanks guys. All options are now ticked, no side effects so far. I love having this level of customisation back again after a year of McAfee!

Yes they were un-ticked on a recommendation from Kaspersky.

They can generate false positives (not-a-virus) detections in perfectly good files.

I'm not saying to leave it un-ticked but if you start to get more 'not-a-virus' types of detections later on that could be very well why.

I made a note of which options were unchecked by default so I know which ones to deselect again if I have any problems. But so far, no problems at all with everything ticked.

Back on the subject of toolbars, I disabled the ZoneAlarm toolbar under "Montera Technonlogies LTD" in Internet Explorer's manage add-ons option and it disappeared. Since then, I installed the Web Of Trust tool bar to give me site ratings in search results. To my surprise another, much neater, ZoneAlarm toolbar appeared alongside it with just protection activity and site status icons. This appears to be using just ZoneAlarm's web protection add-on rather than the ugly Montera Technonlogies one I had before (and which is still disabled).

    That's exactly what I wanted!
