Default 100% CPU usage for SwyxIt!

    Hi All,

as soon as we install ZoneAlarm we cannot use SwyxIt! anymore (Swyx Softphone). There are two processes used by the SwyxIt! client - SwyxIt!.exe and CLMgr.exe. One of them uses around 75% and the other around 25% CPU usage. You just can reset the computer. Disabling ZoneAlarm does not help. Only uninstalling ZoneAlarm makes the software work.
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and Zone Alarm Extreme Security has been tested (version 2010 and 2012).
This behavior only appears with Windows XP. With Windows 7 the combination ZoneAlarm and SwyxIt! works.
Even in safe mode itīs not working.

Any idea how to make the SwyxIt! work with ZoneAlarm on Windows XP?
    kind regards,
    Benjamin

    Hi!

sorry all users here. If you are on trial for ZA Suite or Extreme please contact directly the official ZA technical support at the link in my signature (look for the live chat link).

Most probably its an issue that producer of SwyxIt can diagnose easier since they produce the phone while ZA may have not that hardware at hand to test its compatibility. So I would check further with SwyxIt directly.

At their support site they specifically mention the need to open specific ports in software firewall including ZA (function not available in ZAfree). Please review the KB article at: INFO: SwyxIt! and Desktop Firewall Software (kb2751)

Ensure SwyxIt!.exe and Clmgr.exe has full green tick and super trusted permission (three green bars) in ZA application control. You may also want to manually remove the two entries and let ZA re-create them and allow when prompted.

    Thanks,
    Fax

    Hi Fax,

thanks for your reply. It seems that I did not find the right words.
Weīre not on a trial. ZA Extreme Security is in productive use! We only tried it also with ZA Free Firewall to get a sense if itīs related to the additional components of ZA Extreme Security.

We already contacted Swyx regarding this issue - they told us what ports needs to be opened but they also told us that they are not responsible to assure that each software out there is compatible with SwyxIt! and vice versa. Round number one of the ping pong game started
They also suggested to use a different SW FW ...

Both programs have all green tickers - we made that manually, we let ZA make it. Nothing works. Even if we completely disable ALL services in ZA SwyxIt! cannot be started anymore. If we add a rule that EVERYTHING is allowed (which makes the FW useless) it des not work. But it works as soon as we uninstall ZA or if the OS is Windows 7.

That sounds to me a problem related to ZA and not Swyx.

Cisco does have a similiar issue with their integrated Stateful-Inspection FW in the VPN client. In this case you need to install the VPN client without the FW part.

Is there any chance to increase the logging or debug level of ZA to see what happens? Why is it not working even if ZA is completely disabled? Why is the same ZA SW working on Windows 7 but not on Windows XP?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi!

thank for the further information. If Swyx cannot address the issue then you should report it to ZA technical support directly as already suggested. Not sure how they could resolve it (since they may need the hardware) but best to follow up with them and explain in detail what you have done, the reaction from Swyx and the rest of the details you have already given here.

I am afraid but also ZA cannot ensure that it is compatible with 100% of the hardware our there. If you are not able to resolve it you will probably need to remove one or the other.

Let us know if you manage to resolve the issue keeping ZA in place. It may help other users with similar problems browsing this user forum.

    Thanks,
    Fax
