Exclamation [SOLVED] Problem with ZAES 10.2.074 and Java 7 & Firefox 14?

I experienced the problem of ZAES 10.1.079 going into full scan with every reboot. So I contacted chat support and they described the uninstall, clean.exe, and install 10.2.074 procedure, which I believe is covered elsewhere in the forum.

Now I have issues in which Firefox 14 crashes in mid-load of certain web pages, displaying the error "Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/browser/undefinedapi-public.addthis.comurl/shares.json?" followed by the URL affected.

Tech support at ZA says this is due to Java 7 problems with many firewalls, that Oracle is working on it, and that I should uninstall Java 7 and go back to 6. However, it only started for me after I updated ZAES today, and now the problem is quite frequent.

Anyone else experiencing this, or have any take on it?

    Running Win 7.

    GeorgeV,

Thanks for the link. I did search before posting, but my question was more specific than the discussions I had found. I had been running Java 7 for quite some time, since its release, but my problems only began when I updated ZAES. I was asking if anyone had experienced that.

However, as mentioned in the linked thread, I reduced my Public Zone to medium. Let's see how that goes.

Please note that by reducing the Internet Zone to MEDIUM you basically turn OFF the firewall and allow any inbound calls. This is normally not recommended.

Just remove version 7 and install version 6 as indicated to resolve your issue. Java 6 is still fully supported.

    Thanks,

Thumbs down Re: Problem with ZAES 10.2.074 and Java 7 & Firefox 14?

    OK, Gurus.

Reducing the public zone to medium did not solve the problem.

I completely uninstalled Java and did a fresh install of 6.0.33.

That didn't solve the problem. I still get intermittent "Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/browser/...".

And I will say again - my Java 7 update happened in May 2012. This problem only started when I updated ZAES a few days ago.

I don't see how your position that this is all a Java problem is supported by the circumstances.

The issue is: we start from the first known obvious issue. Running a non working version of JAVA with ZA.

Now, that your are clean of known culprits we move to the next victim --> Firefox corrupted profile. This is tricky to remove as firefox uninstaller does not always remove all files.

See my suggestions in this thread:
    Zone Alarm Security Engine 1.5.395.0

Don't rush, relax. follow all the steps and you will be fine.

    Thanks,

    Fax,

Got it done as per your description in the other thread. Boy, Mozilla and Check Point do leave a lot of stuff scattered around your HD, even after uninstall and clean.exe.

Been two days now, the errors seem to be gone.

I wonder how we will know when Oracle has fixed the problem and we can update Java. Wouldn't want to go through this mess again.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Thank you for taking the time to report back about the resolution of the problem. I will then close this thread and revise the thread title.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to know. Normally this issue should reported in the bug list fixes but not always the list is "readable". I am sure that as soon as fixed some other user will post it here.

So, please come back here to check before installing any new update.

    Thanks,
