Default [SOLVED] ZA blocks Apple TV

iTunes/Apple TV link functions perfectly if I quit ZA, but does not work with ZA running.

WinXP, ZA10.1.101.000, iTunes 10.6.3.25, AppleTV s/w 5.1 (all latest versions).

Apple support talks about port 3689 but I can find no port settings in ZA.

Apple TV does discover the name of my library in iTunes, but cannot load it.

This forum seemed to suggest a downgrade to ZA10.1.065 would fix it, but the link led to 10.1.079 which I installed and did not fix it.

Does anyone have a solution to this, or do I have to desert ZA after 10 years ?

    Hello;

Unfortunately; the FREE version of Zone Alarm never had the option to open selected ports..

Sorry, The Free Version only provides a basic Firewall and no Official Support other than comments by other ZA Free users..

considering you are running a very old version of ZoneAlarm you should first remove it and install the latest version.

    1. Download the latest version 10.2.078.000 to your desktop
Looking for the latest version? <= click here

    2. Remove your current version (windows XP - Add/Remove). REBOOT computer

    3. Install the latest version in point 1. Do not change any default settings.

if you use the Forum SEARCH feature you would find the following post like theses below:

    Cracked it !!
It is so simple I am surprised nobody mentioned it.
All you do it turn the trusted zone security off.
There are no threats on my home network anyway.

PS. Where has my last post to this thread gone ??
It was there for some time, and now it has gone.

Thanks GeorgeV, but it was my last post to this thread which disappeared. I was saying how I had arrived at version 10.2.078.000 but still had the problem, and asking why my Apple TV had suddenly been blocked after using ZA with no problems for years.

No matter, with ZA Internet security on "High", and trusted zone security on "medium" on my other system, I think I am safe.

It should be enough to ensure your network (ZA firewall zones) is set to "TRUSTED" and not internet and that your trusted zone is set to "MEDIUM" and not high.

ZA10.2.078.000 has two zones (why do they keep changing this ?) "Public Zone" which is set to "High", and "Trusted Zone" which is set to "Medium".

AppleTV cannot operate unless the Trusted Zone is set to "Off".

My network has a laptop and another Win XP system running ZA with Trusted Zone set to medium, so where does the threat come from if one system is set to Off ?

Maybe I should just go back to ZA92_057_000 which I just found in my backups from Oct 2010 ?

The issue is likely linked to your ZA zones settings of your network not the ZA trusted or Internet zone settings. How is your network (LAN) been setup in ZA? Which is the IP? 192.168...?

    The network appears as 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0
I have added the AppleTV as 192.168.1.76, and ZA also added three IPs which belong to "mapped drives".
The AppleTV can see iTunes because it obtains the name of the home-share library on my system, it just cannot load it.

    The basic facts are:
    1. It all works fine with the Trusted Zone set to "Off", or with ZA killed.
    2. Apple support says AppleTV uses port 3689.
    3. It all worked fine several issues of ZA ago (I mainly use it for photos after holidays).
