    Default ZA ISS hangs Win 7 Home Pro

    I have just installed ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite paid version.
    After a few hours the machine hangs with a black screen and is totally unresponsive. The only way to get it back is a restart via the power button

    This is most annoying as I leave the machine unattended doing downloads.

    Last night I ran with ZA off and there was no hang..............
    dangerous I know, but what else can I do?

    I used to run ZA Extreme without any problems.
    I wsih I had not changed over.

    Hi!

    first of all you should post the exact version of ZASS used. RIght click the ZA icon near the clock --> About --> copy to cliboard --> paste it here.

    If ZAX was working on the same system then there is not reason why ZASS cannot work on it.

    How did you install ZASS? Did you removed ZAX before? Are you using previous settings? Have you customize ZA in any way? How do you connect to internet? Are ZA zone configured correctly?

    Start with a clean install of ZA:

    - Uninstall ZA from WIN7 "uninstall a program". Reboot.
    Download, run the ZA removal tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe

    - Then look manually on the system for "checkpoint" folders. There is one in programs file and another in the hidden WIN7 folder called "program data"

    - Turn on windows WIN7 firewall

    - Re-download a fresh copy of the free ZA directly from the ZA site. http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...e-download.htm

    - Remove any other security tool installed, check for any left overs with: http://www.appremover.com/

    - Clean your system and registry with the Free Ccleaner.exe
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

    - Reinstall ZA with an active connection (web installer above)

    - Keep default settings and check if the problem is resolved.

    including the folders mentioned

    Thanks for the advice, I will see what happens

    At least this is better than the advice from ZA Chat
    which would take days, probably weeks to go through as the hang comes after several hours of operation..............
    Type Msconfig in the run box
    Tom R.: 3.) Click OK
    Tom R.: 4.) Once in Msconfig, click the Startup Tab, and remove the checks from everything except zatray.exe.
    Tom R.: 5.) Click the Service Tab, place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services." Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet Monitor and ZoneAlarm ForceField IswSvc
    Tom R.: 6.) Click OK
    Tom R.: 7.) Restart your computer and see if it works.
    Tom R.: 8.) If it works, go back into Msconfig and place checks back in five or so at a time and restart, so you can narrow down what is causing the conflict.

    Please note that latest version is 10.2.081.000. Use my link above to download it.

    The advise given by support is indeed correct as if what I have suggested fails then the only way to check is by using MSCONFIG to find the third party software culprit of the issue.

    Just follow the suggestions given to the letter and see if this help. If not you will need to try the MSCONFIG.
