    Default Should “Network” be in the “Public” zone?

    I’m thinking that “Network” should be in the “Public” zone. Am I correct?

    I’ve just upgraded from ZAP v 9.3.037 to ZAP v 10.2.078 and noticed that the installation process put “Network 67.175.188.0/255.255.254.0” into the “Trusted Zone”.

    My single computer is wired to a Comcast Cable modem. I added the “Local Host” and the two “DNS” entries myself.

    View Zones-> ZAP Firewall Settings:

    Name IP Address/Site Entry Type Zone
    Network 67.175.188.0/255.255.254.0 Network Trusted
    DHCP Server 69.253.202.7 IP Address Trusted
    Local Host 127.0.0.1 IP Address Trusted
    DNS Server 1 208.67.222.222 IP Address Trusted
    DNS Server 2 208.67.220.220 IP Address Trusted

    Win 7 shows these Network Connection Details:

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix: hsd1.il.comcast.net.

    Hello;

    I'm thinking that the Default Network setting should be in Trusted Zone
    for your single computer is wired to a Comcast Cable modem..

    Now Install the new update (clean Install) and Accept the default Setting, and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..

    If your connected direct from modem to Ethernet NIC Card and not on a wide area networks (WAN) on a router you might want to read the following.

    Managing traffic sources:

    The Zones panel contains the traffic sources (computers, networks, or sites) you have added to the Trusted Zone or Blocked Zone. It also contains any networks that ZoneAlarm security software has detected. If you are using a single, non-networked PC, the traffic source list displays only your ISP’s (Internet Service Provider’s) network, which should be in the Public Zone.

    If you have a current valid license.You could confirm with Tech Support if this is the case.

    You have to check if your IP is really facing the internet or is the "tranlsated" IP by your LAN/router/modem. Fast way to check is to have your PC port scanned (https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2).

    Check the IP been scanned by grc shieldup, if it is the same as the one mentioned in the ZA firewall zone (network) then your IP is facing the internet and the most secure setting is "PUBLIC". If not, you can keep it in "TRUSTED".

    Thanks,

    Guru & Fax,

    Thanx for your advice.

    My “Public” Zone is “High” and my “Trusted” Zone is “Medium”.

    GRC shows my IP address is internet accessible and that no shares or open ports occur. Nonetheless, I will change my “Network” entry in Firewall Settings/View Zones from “Trusted” to “Public”.

    Not sure I follow. Can you see the same IP reported by GRC in ZA network? The IP is mentioned towards the bottom of the page that opens just after clicking the link above - it is not the one in colour but bold in parenthesis.

    The ZA zones mentioned are been setup correctly (default).

    Thanks,
    Fax
