Red face Cisco RVS4000 router blocking AV dat file and blocking it from being installed.

Sometime in the last week or two some additional entries in the virus data files is raising a flag with my router (RVS4000). The data files are being blocked as attempts to download "Windows XP malformed .wmf files".

Could you please give more details, location reported of the detected files, exact version of ZA used, OS used, explain what virus data files comes from (two AV?). Etc. More info you give more likely other users here will be able to help.

    Thanks,

Default Cisco RVS4000 router blocking AV dat file and blocking it from being installed.

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall version: 10.2.047.000
    vsmon version: 10.2.047.000
    Driver version: 10.2.047.000
    Antivirus engine version: 8.2.11.97
Antivirus signature DAT file version: 1098001248
    Web Identity Protections version: 1.5.388.0

    Windows XP completely up-do-date.

The data files are the automatic retrieval of AV files by Zone Alarm on daily schedule.

I don't know what else I can tell you.

    Al

Every morning Zone Alarm pops up a message to say that the security is out of date.

If ZA own updates are been flagged by ZA itself then there is a problem of corruption of ZA. The best is to:

    1. Remove ZA from XP add/remove programs
    2. Reboot
    3. Turn ON windows firewall
    4. Run the ZA removal tool (just serach the board for the link)
    5. Ensure that you do not have left overs. E.g. Look manually on the system for "checkpoint" folders. There is one in programs file and another in the hidden XP folder <DRIVE>:\Documents and Settings\<user account name>\Application Data
    6. Re-download a fresh copy of the free ZA directly from the ZA site.
Looking for the latest version? (mind to choose the right version as there are many different ones).
    7. Install it and check now if ZA can update

Please note that blocking of updates can also depend on other security tools installed or left overs. Blocking of updates may also depend on malware. If this is the case then please see here Malware Clean-up Guidance

    Thanks,

You misunderstand. It's not ZA that is flagging the update. It is my CISCO ROUTER (RVS4000) which I mentioned in first question on this subject. I suspect there is a something new in the data file that is triggering the block from the router on the data updates from ZA.

Maybe nothing I can do about it. ...

Our Av update files cannot be changed so that it wont trigger your cisco.

Cisco is at fault and needs to fix its false positive.

    We don't change our files.

Contact Cisco and report a false positive. Possibly the device is configured incorrectly also.

    This thread is being closed.
Also renaming this thread to be a bit more accurate since this is not a ZA issue at all.
