Unhappy Zone Alarm Fails "True Stealth" Ping test.

I've used zone alarm (free) many years and previous versions have always passed the firewall test at ShieldsUP!. However, this latest version (13.3.209.000) gave me the following message.

Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation.

How can I set zone alarm to pass this firewall test?

    Hi!

there is nothing really you need to do as "stealth" comes as default in ZA.
If you kept all the Default setting in Zone Alarm. However, there is a General misunderstanding about "who does what" for "stealthing" your PC.

For example, most Routers or modems already comes with a mini firewall up front.

Therefore, incoming internet calls are first filtered by these devices and not ZA. ZA will be the second line of defense in case any unsolicited calls managed to still get in. Also ZA will control your outbound calls (from applications in your PC to the Internet).

So, "stealth" may not be feasible unless your router/modem also support a stealth setup.

This was discussed several times in here. Try to use the forum search function on top of this forum to find similar threads.
