    Exclamation Latest ZA Update and Toshiba power saver fatal error

    Hello. After the most recent update, i now have issues with my toshiba power saver utility on my laptop.

    Ever since the first reboot after the recent zone alarm update, I now receive the following error at windows xp startup

    "Toshiba Power Saver: A fatal error has occured. this program will be terminated. code:0x5"
    I have uninstalled and re-installed my laptop's toshiba power saver utility obtained from the toshiba website, but it continues to show this error, even though the power saver appears to be running fine (icon is present, app runs, fnkey + power modes works).

    I have gone into the ZoneAlarm firewall and noted that the toshiba power saver utility is allowed full access, so i cant figure out why since the update i now have this error message.
    Other than completely uninstalling zonealarm to solve this problem, is there a way in which i can revert back to the previous zonealarm version?

    System Details: Toshiba satellite laptop, with windows xp sp3 with all the latest windows updates, Microsoft security essentials AV, and zonealarm FW.

    What ZA products and copy and paste all ZA version info.

    I would update ZA to the latest version and see if there is any change. You find the latest version here:

    Hello, i used the update feature and it says that my ZA is up to date.

    Even thought the ZA update link said my ZA was up to date, i went ahead and used the installer from the link you provided.
    Unfortunately i did not realize that what yo provided was ZA firewall + antivirus.
    So now i have ZA firewall and antivirus installed.

    The problem with toshiba power saver still exists with this version.

    ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall version: 11.0.000.057
    Vsmon version: 11.0.000.057
    Driver version: 11.0.000.057
    Antivirus engine version: 8.3.0.13
    Antivirus signature DAT file version: 0
    Web Identity Protections version: 1.5.393.22

    Since i dont want ZA antivirus ( i am happy with my existing AV provider).
    I will now go about completely uninstalling ZA.(and maybe re-installing just the ZA free firewall without Antivirus).
    I will report back my results after uninstall.

    Sorry, the link I gave was supposed to contain ZAfree. Apparently not.
    Alternatively you can use the webinstaller from here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...tall-steps.htm

    This should definitively download the right one! Although the results are likely to be the same (i.e. Toshiba issue)

    Ok well i uninstalled ZA from my PC (using add/remove programs)
    And now i no longer get the Toshiba Power saver error.
    So as i suspected it was definately ZA which was causing this error.
    Was pretty obvious given my problem started immediately after the latest ZA free update, after i restarted my PC, however now this completely confirms it was ZA since removing ZA has solved my problem.

    Anywell now i guess if i want to keep using ZA free firewall i will need to find a way to put the older version on my pc since the new one causes the problems.

    How can I install an older version of ZA free firewall?

    I still might have the executable used for the older version in my downloads folder, however the way i understand it ZA installers will just go online and always grab the latest version?

    Sorry this is not recommended here nor supported. Best to move on to other free solution that you can keep fully up-to-date than running an old security tool that may even contain undisclosed vulnerabilities.

    This is even more relevant for security tools that are your first line of defence.
