Default is this a Possible bogus pop-up for ZA Free --> No it is legit

Is this a genuine ZoneAlarm pop-up window?

    za-popup-jpg.jpg

Why I'm asking: On our Windows XP (service pack 3) computer, we got this pop-up. When "yes" was clicked, ZA wouldn't finish updating. We ran scans immediately and ZA found nothing, but SuperAntiSpyware found a trojan in the ZoneAlarm installer file.

The thing is, we think we got rid of the trojan, but this pop-up still occurs. Is this really a ZA pop-up or is it a fake and we still have the trojan on the system?

    Thanks.

The warning is genuine and the detection of SAS bogus (false positive that you should report to them, not here). Next time please simply check the release history of ZAfree at the main ZA site or browse the forum here to know about new versions.

I'm glad to know it's legit, but it doesn't look legit. With all due respect, there are enough typos in that pop-up that it looks like one of those fake pop-ups that viruses use. (No comma after "old," "supported" is misspelled, and "privacy" shouldn't be capitalized.)

That pop-up never goes away. ZoneAlarm on our Windows XP computer has been updated daily since it started showing up, and the window stating it's not updated keeps popping up at random times.

Unfortunately, the SAS detection wasn't a false positive. After we found the trojan with SAS, we booted up in safe mode with networking and ran MBAM which found the rest. It was "Trojan.Agent/Gen-FraudPack" inside the CheckPoint folder. I got some virus removal instructions from a thread here on the ZoneAlarm forums and used them, and it seems to have worked. The computer is clear on every scan. It's just the pop-up that won't go away now.

Sorry all users here, you will need to feedback checkpoint on spelling mistake.

Again SAS detection IS a false positive as no virus is contained in checkpoint. Also note that detection by SAS is "generic" detection. This means that SAS used heuristics or best proxy to determine that a certain file has the same behaviour of what SAS has classified as fraud. So, one more reason not to believe SAS detection. Note that generic detections are prone to false positives. Always check with the provider of the software to confirm the detection.

Your ZA updates antivirus signature everyday. The message does NOT refer to virus signature but to a new ZA version been published.

You are likely running ZA 9 or 10 and you should update to 11.

I am afraid I cannot add more to this to convince you. Probably now SAS has broken ZA. The simpler procedure to update is to fully remove your current ZA, reboot, turn ON windows firewall, download and install latest ZA version. Done.

Next time at least give to this user forum minimal information on your ZA version. Right click the ZA icon near the clock --> about --> copy to clipboard -- > paste it in a new message.

    Thanks,
