    Question [WORKAROUND] Synology Assistant

    Hello All,

    There has been a problem between Zonealarm and Synology Assistant for many years. Has a fix finally been provided as I am still experiencing the same problem of the software not seeing the NAS becasue of the firewall?

    Sorry all user here, no ZA technical support. Aside from the workaround posted on this board (see below) we have no further information about it.

    You may want to contact Synology to know if they are aware of the issue and can suggest a workaround. If you have a valid license to ZA product you can also try to contact the ZA technical support at the link in my signature (look for the live chat link at the main ZA support website).

    Many thanks for the reply, using a browser to access the DS is what I normally do, however certain Assistant functions are required to upload picture folders rather just files.

    My ZA licence is fine, dandy and valid as it has been for many years.

    I will try Synology but to be honest it is a firewall issue. I will look further into the problem when I have more time and see if I can nail it down, although I would of thought ZA would of been in a better position to do this.

    I also note that the cloud station client cannot connect to the DS, it is too early to tell if this is also a firewall issue - just thought I would throw that one in whilst I was here.

    Assitant is now working for me, when I implemented a solution for another issue I had with ZA

    Solution is to go to

    Computer->Firewall setting->Adance Settings->View Zones->Add

    Then Add the ip address of the computer using Assisant in the trusted zone

    I am using Assisant on a desktop with fixed IP address. If you use DHCP, it can be more tricky.

    My original issue was with WOL which did not work either with ZA, but is also working now with above solution. Both assistant and WOL use udp broadcast, and ZA does not seem to like it by default.
