    Default Sudden loss of internet access

    I've been using the ZA free firewall for ten years without problems and since I've switched to the 2013 version (no other changes to my PC) I've been experiencing the sudden internet access loss described and talked about in the following thread:

    https://www.zonealarm.com/forums/sho...t-Remove-Avast

    As nothing other than a reboot or turning ZA off and back on worked for me, I was wondering if there was any new info on the subject.

    Hello;

    Assuming you are free of viruses or malware and that you are using a good security tool then most likely you are experiencing ZA broken settings.

    Two option (option 2 should be the preferred).

    1. Reset the ZA settings in ZA tools --> Preferences --> Reset to default --> Reboot the PC

    2. Start clean by removing ZAfree and install the latest version you find here:
    http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...tall-steps.htm

    (yes, ZA autoupdate only warn users of major updates)

    Hello,

    Yes I am virus/malware free and using Vipre av. I also make sure everything is updated regularly.

    I have also tried both suggested options without success.

    Note that this only started when I installed ZA 2013....which I uninstalled/ reinstalled twice since.

    Sorry all users here and ZA support does not monitor this board (+ ZAfree offers no official support other than from users of this Forum).

    The only thing I could suggest is to provide full details of the OS, Exact version of ZA (right click the ZA icon near the clock --> about --> Paste it in a reply)

    The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

    It has now been 48 hrs without losing my internet connection. I'm hoping the issue has been resolved.

    Here's what I did, in that order:

    1. I downloaded and installed Ccleaner
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

    2. I uninstalled ZA (version 11.0.000.054)

    3. I ran Ccleaner and deleted all suggested files.

    4. I downloaded ZA (version 11.0.000.057), saved it to desktop then opened and ran the file to reinstall ZA

    Oh yeah! I've also been keeping my fingers crossed since

    Thank you very much for taking the time to report back on the progress!

    Post Re: Sudden loss of internet access

    I found that, in time, the problem reappears. The easiest way to deal with it is to:

    1 "snooze the firewall for 5 minutes" (right click on ZA icon for command)

    2 Access the internet

    3 "resume firewall" (right click on ZA icon for command) no need to wait 5 minutes

    Since you have "Vipre Antivirus" installed?

    That brings up another Question?

    did you install ZA Free 2013 as a result of receiving an Update Popup or Email notice from Checkpoint? if so, then you probably downloaded the ZA Free Firewall + Anti-virus version and not he Zone Alarm (Basic) Firewall Only version , which will Conflict with "Vipre"

    If instead, you downloaded Zone Alarm Free Firewall 11.0.000.504 directly from the Checkpoint website? Make sure that you downloaded the Free Firewall ONLY version..

    1. Download the latest version http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/...10&action=view
    <== click here

    2. Remove your current ZA version (in XP use Windows add/remove programs)

    3. Remove other security tools installed. Use http://www.appremover.com/ to double check no left overs are present.

    4. Clean your system and registry with the Free Ccleaner.exe
    free ccleaner <= click here

    5. Download to your desktop and run the ZA removal tool, <= click here
    now reboot computer after running ZA Removal tool.

    6. Now Install the latest ZA version without touching any default settings,
    and Do Not Restore Saved Settings from the old install.
