    Default heur trojan.win32.generic <== False Positive

    Hi, sorry hope I've posted this in the correct section. Last night a ZA message popped up saying I'd been infected with the 'heur trojan.win32.generic' virus in a file located in my 'Steam' account folder.

    ZA started to scan and then programs started to crash. I couldn't open anything and if I tried the icon to that program would disappear. I ended up crashing the computer but on restart everything seemed to be fine. I did a full ZA virus scan, Spybot scan and Windows defender scan and each came up negative.

    Was I really infected or was this a false/positive. And if I was infected, how can I tell if the infection is still there? I'd be most grateful for any help you can give me. I'm worried about using internet banking or anything where I provide a password.

    I use ZA pro/antivirus
    Windows 7 home 64

    I am afraid it is impossible to say it from here. First of all ensure you are running the latest version of ZA antivirus (11.0.000.504) if not please update to it. If the version you have is old it is best to first remove the current version then install the new. Looking for the latest version?

    For the rest please check here below for assessing false positives:

    Thanks,

    We have tested the beta version of ZA with installing the Steam software and doing a full scan.

    There was never a detection of anything bad in any of the Steam folders or files.

    So there must have been a false positive for a very short time and it was corrected in the next AV update.

    ==================================================

    Second, we are downloading and installing the Batman Arkham City game (demo) and will post the results of that testing against the Beta version of ZA.

    Unfortunately we are not able to purchase this game just to test for a single or couple reports of an issue. So the demo version will have to do for testing.
