Angry Wrong expiry after clean install of XP Sp2 but don't want SP3.

I already tried searching the forums, but nothing close so...

On Sunday I was forced to do a clean install of XP (Home SP2, haven't installed SP3 yet). ZA Internet Suite was about the only non-MS program (so far) that I needed to reinstall. Before the reinstall, my license was good for 200+ days, but now it says I only have 38 left before I need to renew, even with my key.

I've already installed v10.2.081.000, and entered my key. Still, only 38 days left to "renew." So how to get the rest of the time I paid for before the FUBAR?

Also there is absolutely no support for SP2. You must install SP3 and ALL other critical and non-critical and all other Microsoft updates before you even attempt to install ZA.

If you don't ZA may not work properly and you will not get any support for an OS that not supported plus the fact we do not support anything less than the current version of ZA

So if ZA has been installed. Uninstall it now.
    second run the clean utility

then finish all MS updates. Then you can reinstall the latest version of ZA.

That was so NOT worth the hassle of reformatting my C: and making a real clean install of XP just to install SP3, but fortunately my now streamlined install CD made it (somewhat) easier, and got all the updates afaik.

    Now What?????

Then, sounds like your clean install of windows XP was not so clean.
What are exactly saying these errors? How you installed ZA? Screenshot? More info you post more likely others users here will be able to help, otherwise it's like shooting in the dark.

Assuming XP SP3 was installed correctly and you don't have other problems in the system or you are running other antivirus or security tools, the step below should ensure a clean install of ZA. Internet connection should be active at all times while performing the below steps.

    1. Ensure you former ZA and any left overs are not any anymore on the system. First remove ZA from XP add/remove programs. Double check that also other entries related to ZA are removed, if present (e.g. ZoneAlarm Toolbar). Reboot the PC

    2. Reboot the PC and turn ON windows firewall (ZA will take care to turn it off during install)

    3. Download to desktop and run the ZA removal tool you find here:

    4. Reboot the PC

    5. Download a fresh installer of ZA Security Suite from here:
    Looking for the latest version?
(mind to choose the right installer! i.e. ZoneAlarm Security Suite)

    6. Install the latest ZA you have downloaded above

Post details and screenshots of any errors you get at this point.

My "not-so-clean-install" is actually a restore-from-backup after the clean install of XPSP3. And that backup was made after a repair-in-place install when I thought my system was OK.

As for the errors, this is what I was able to find from Event Viewer:

    Fault bucket -912358902.

    0000: 41 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74 Applicat
    0008: 69 6f 6e 20 46 61 69 6c ion Fail
    0010: 75 72 65 20 20 69 6e 73 ure ins
    0018: 74 61 6c 6c 2e 65 78 65 tall.exe
    0020: 20 30 2e 30 2e 30 2e 30
    0028: 20 69 6e 20 69 6e 73 74 in inst
    0030: 61 6c 6c 2e 65 78 65 20 all.exe
    0038: 30 2e 30 2e 30 2e 30 20
    0040: 61 74 20 6f 66 66 73 65 at offse
    0048: 74 20 30 30 30 32 62 32 t 0002b2
    0050: 35 36 0d 0a 56..

Hopefully that's enough to figure out what's happening, but let me know if there's a better way to find the errors if needed.

BTW, the clean-up install also generates program errors, so that's useless too.

    I agree with Guru Fax;

It is Possible that you had a power surge/outage some time in the resent past, then it is very possible the Windows XP OS was corrupted, and that very well may be the issue because after you manually removed ZA the OS does not have internet access.

Your much better off formatting the hard drive and re-install the Windows XP OS.

Who knows what else in the OS is damaged and even if you get ZA off and then get the OS back on the internet you may have issue going forward forever and you will just think its ZA causing the issue. Then you will come back here over and over and over and eventually just frustrated and leave ZA.

Cut to the chase now and bite the bullet.

Format the hard drive re-install the OS from scratch (don't install the new OS over the damaged OS.)

Use Windows update to download and install ALL Service Pack including SP3, and both critical and non-critical updates along with ALL optional updates.

Then download the latest version of ZA Security Suite ver. .

Now Install the latest ZA version without touching any default settings, and Do Not Restore Saved Settings from the old install.
