Default Help with free version upgrade

I have had Zone Alarm for a long time. This is not the first time this has happened. I downloaded the newer version as prompted and now I have the Firewall (which I want) but I also has the Anti Virus (I don not want). Previously when getting help I was given a link for the firewall only, but I can't seem to find anything like that now.

It says that the anti virus is only partially activated since I have another anti virus there is a conflict.

    1. Is there a Firewall only version as there was before?
    2. If I leave this in and it is only partially working and says it is disabled, will that avoid a conflict?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello;

You need to pay very close attention to what the install screen says.

Probably just a bad upgrade. Try a clean install as detailed below:

    1. Re-download the latest version of ZAfree from here: Looking for the latest version?
Watch out to choose the right installer, i.e. ZAfree WITHOUT the antivirus

    2. Remove you current ZA from your OS control panel (add/remove programs in XP, Uninstall an application in WIN7 or WIN8).

    3. Reboot the PC

    4. Turn ON Windows firewall if off (ZA will take care of turning it off once installed).

    5. Download and save to the desktop the ZA removal tool:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe

    6. Run the ZA removal tool

    7. Reboot the PC

    8. Install the latest version ZAfree you downloaded from point 1.
    without touching any default settings,
and Do Not Restore Saved Settings from the old install.

I did pay attention to it and I did download the correct link (the same as your link goes to). I did pay attnetion to what the install screen says and I did skip all the "extras" .But maybe I missed something that says only install the free firewall??? I will try a clean install tomorrow and let you know. Thanks!!!!!!!

NOTE: ***> do not download from the Upgrade Notice Link!!! that link ONLY provides a link to the Free Firewall + antivirus

if you do not want the Anti-virus that come with Zone Alarm, then you need to follow my instructions that I said in my first reply..

    George,

I did as you instructed, used the download link you gave me and I still end up with the anti virus. Before it was disabled (siad so) due to a conflict. Now it won't turn off. Unfortunately I am worse off than before.
I do not think that I missed anything, but maybe I did. I never say the FW only, the download says awfw but does both.
    Ideas, more suggestions??????
    Thanks!

Remember to follow ALL steps (2 to 8) as suggested above to get rid of any ZA left overs on your system as it seems your previous ZA does not remove correctly from the system!
