Thread: Missing UA headers?

    Question Missing UA headers?

I've been asked by a webmaster why requests originating from my PC appear to be missing a user agent header and why multiple HEAD requests are being made.

I haven't installed any software or add-ins to explicitly do this, so I have to assume that either my AV or firewall is doing this.

I'm using ZoneAlarm, so perhaps somebody here can tell me if ZoneAlarm is responsible and if so how to stop this from happening?

The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

Right click the ZA icon near the clock --> About --> Paste it here in a response (remove the license key, if applicable).

Also answer some basic questions like:

This sounds like a Browser configuration problem not related to Zone Alarm?

    1. The Windows OS version and SP update used.
    2. First time installing ZA?
    3. Was it working well ever before?
    4. What other security tools are installed? Other antivirus (e.g. Microsoft Security Essential, Email Client, Browser Type & version etc.).
    5. Any problem with malware/adware/viruses recently?
    6. Running on an administrative user account?

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, or around the World,
without All the Details about your computer it's Software and what type and Version of Zone Alarm that you failed to provide, without our ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

Although support has no idea what a user agent header is or what it does (we are not webmasters)

The ONLY part of ZA that will change or remove code from a website is part of our Security toolbar. Probably the Do Not track feature but could be something else in the toolbar.

Its a security feature and will not be changed to accommodate one persons website at all.

You can try turning the feature off or re-installing ZA without the Security toolbar altogether.
