    Hi,

I reverted back to the free version and here is the clipboard copy:

    ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 11.0.780.000

    -----

I found this error in the event viewer:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Event ID: 7024
    Description:
The TrueVector Internet Monitor service terminated with service-specific error The operation completed successfully..

    Another one:

    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Event ID: 7034
    Level: Error
    Description:
The TrueVector Internet Monitor service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 17 time(s).

    ----

Also I note that in Task manager servises tab the "vsmon" servise is not started.
    Thanks

Yes, that error is linked to the*.tmp files you mentioned previously. You can try to remove ZA again, run the clean.exe, check for orphan folders from ZA. The boot your machine ONLY with MS related programs/services, like this:

    1. Click the Windows 7 "Start" ->
    2. Type MSCONFIG in the search box and click OK
    3. Once in MSCONFIG , click the ServiceTab
    4. Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
    5. Now remove checks from everything.
    6. Click the Startup Tab,
    7. Order by publisher and disable all items except items from Microsoft
    8. Restart your computer
    9. Install ZA

Now test if the issue persist. If it does then you still have ZA unable to access or save data at registry and/or hard disk level. For which I cannot really help apart from suggesting a full reformat. Sorry

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

    Hi again,

Unfortunately no success as it is still expired after following last instructions.

I was not able to stop two AVG anti virus services it gave me access denied even though I was using an administrator account. I am guessing those services prevented the successful installation of ZA.

Thanks a lot for your help

I might try windows repair or find a way to stop those two AVG services and try again.

    Hi Fax,

I successfully installed a working ZA Free Firewall by uninstalling AVG Free anti-virus 2013. I found that I had recently updated AVG AV which may have started the problem with ZA.

    Thanks,
