    Default [SOLVED] ZoneAlarm wants to reinstall --> Remove left overs from previous install

    I have installed ZoneAlarm free and it reports it is installed properly and is working.

    But every time I reboot the system in the morning, ZA wants to reinstall. If I dismiss the install message, ZA interface says it is working.

    What did I do wrong?

    Likely your ZA install did not go perfectly well as it should be. You probably have at boot a call of the ZA installer. Run MSCONFIG and check within the startup tab if you have any entry pointing to "install" or similar. If so, remove it.

    May be when you have time you should fully remove ZA from WIN7 uninstall a program, run the ZA removal tool, Re-download the latest installer and install again.

    Another possibility is that you are running an OLD version. For both cases see above.

    Hello;

    With the little information provided I can only think of a corruption of the ZA databases (where settings are stored). This is normally fixed by a reset. Go to ZA tool --> Preferences --> Reset to default --> reboot . Do no restore any previous settings.

    If the above fails, remove ZA from windows 7 uninstall a program and reinstall ZA fresh.

    Now Install the latest ZA version without touching any default settings, and Do Not Restore Saved Settings from the old install.

    I tried your first suggestion, I looked at MSCONFG, ZA is in startup but no install indication. I used clean to uninstall and reinstalled.

    After the install, I shut the system down, rebooted and am still greeted with the UAC dialog to start the installation.

    I do not know what other information you need. I have not changed any of the default settings. Control Panel reports ZA is working.

    The only thing I did during the install was leave the checkboxes unchecked and selected decline offers.

    ZA-free is completely uninstalled right now. Windows firewall is active. Avast-free is my anti-virus.

    What else should I do before I attempt another install?

    Fax,

    There's nothing to send a picture of.

    1) I install ZA Install completes
    2) Windows indicates it is operational
    3) Turn off the system
    4) Turn on system
    6) UAC appears to install ZA.
    7) I OK the UAC request
    8) ZA installs
    9) Windows reports ZA is functional
    10) repeat 3
    11) repeat 4
    12) see 6
    13 loop repeats every time I turn the system off and on.

    I mean the UAC message... Also check the task manager for the processes involved. Do you have more calls to ZA in the startup? List exactly what you have in the start up.
