    Default [SOLVED] Unable to create an installation log --> WIN7 corrupted user profile

    This message appears as soon as I start an update. This is not related to the latest update, I also get it with the previous update. The same in safe mode. I have administrator rights and run it on a Dell E5500 laptop with Windows 7.

    ** Version of ZA installed (right click the ZA icon near the clock --> about --> copy to clipboard --> paste it here in a reply)??

    ** Screenshot of the warning please? Is it from ZA? Is it from windows 7?

    ** What have you tried to resolve the issue?
    ** Have you removed ZA (if installed)?
    ** Have you run the ZA removal tool (clean.exe)?

    ?? What other security tools are your running? Antivirus?
    Is Windows 7 SP1 fully updated?

    More information you post more likely other users here will be able to help.

    Thanks,

    Hi!

    Thanks! Sounds like an issue with your windows 7. Assuming its a ZA issue the steps below should solve your problem. You are running a rather outdated version of ZA. The first thing to do is to fully remove your ZA version and install the latest. To do this, you should:

    1. Take careful note of your ZA license key;
    2. Download the latest ZA Security from here:
    Looking for the latest version?
    Mind to choose the right installer (ZoneAlarm Security Suite)
    3. Right Click the ZA icon near the clock --> Push on "EXIT" --> Wait one minute
    4. Remove the installed ZA from windows 7 control panel: "uninstall a program" (sorry don't know how it is named in Dutch).
    5. Reboot the PC
    6. Turn ON windows firewall (if not already ON)
    7. Download and save into your desktop the ZA removal tool from here:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...load/clean.exe
    8. Run the ZA removal tool
    9. Reboot the PC
    10. Double check there are no "checkpoint" folder in program files folder and programdata folder. The latter folder may be hidden and you will need to make it show. How to show hidden folders: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...-in-windows-7/
    11. Run the the installer you have downloaded in point 2.

    Finally please note that ZA officially support only English, Spanish, Italian, French and German localised versions of the Operating system.

    Thanks,

    Sorry for the key, I did not notice it was there, fully agree with you.

    It is impossible to uninstall ZA, it gives me the same message.

    Hello;

    Windows 7 comes with a program to do Screenshots,
    called Snipping Tool

    Located in Windows\System32\snippingtool.exe

    I highlight that file and create a shortcut to the Desktop for easy access when I need to use the Snipping Tool..

    Then you need to resolve the issue with windows 7 first. This message is normally given if your are not the administrator of your system.

    May be the user profile is corrupted?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/W...d-user-profile

    Try to create a new user with adminitrative privilegies and work from there

    I was now able to update ZA to the latest version, I acted as follows:
    - I created a new user account;
    - I Switched to that user;
    - Exited ZA
    - Removed all user data of this user
    - Tried to update ZA and it worked
    - Restarted the laptop
    - Logged into my Original account, switched on ZA and that worked.

    I still have to look into my Original profile, because the error is still there when I run the update again, but for now I can go on thanks to this workaround.

    Thanks for your support.
    Also thanks for the tip of the screenshot tool.

    I am glad to hear the problem is resolved and thank you for taking the time to report back. I will revise the title of the thread and closing it as the issue is resolved.

    It would be good, when you have time, to clean install ZA. When shifting from major releases (10 to 11, 11 to 12) it is always best to start clean (i.e. remove ZA first and install the new version). This will ensure you are not porting problems across different versions.

    Do not hesitate to open a new thread for any new ZA product related issue or PM in case you want this thread to be update/reopened

    Thanks,
