hello fax, thanks for the reply,
    i noticed that you replied.

here is a shorter message so you understand what i was saying:

you "add zone", and enter a web site address:
    now this web site CAN:
    1. SEE your computer and all the files on it?
    2. add files on your computer?
    3. remove files on your computer?
    4. change files on your computer?

    thanks a lot fax.
    hows your day going today?

i understand the add zone now. it is up to the user to be part of the security process, meaning that the level of security is up to the user, as in if you make a mistake or don't set the settings correctly, or, in this case, to be tricked, for example.

i was applying for a job and they told me, as part of the "application process" that i HAD to "add" their web site address to the "trusted" level, past my security. so i did so. that is why i was wondering.
now i know not to, though i don't know what i would of told them. if it was a real company/job offer, then i would not have gotten the job; however, if it was a fake......
but what i don't understand, is why a REAL company would say that i had to allow them past my security program?? it doesn't make sense.

i really appreciate your help fax. you are a wonderful person.

    1. control-P>add printer>local printer
    [select random printer name]=
    "error printing"
    it cannot print the page
    [i tried 4 times]
so then i looked for the actual name of the printer, even WHEN i "knew" the name, and the list of drivers was not even on the default list!

    2. control-P>add printer>network printer=
    [browse]

    ERROR
"you need to specify a vaild network printer name"
    [i tried 3 times]

    3. type in random name=

    ERROR
"windows cannot connect to the printer. either the printer name was typed. incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server."
[and just to be sure, i tried 3 more times, and lowered the security level]

    conclusion:
it is IMPOSSIBLE to add a printer on the same network without installing the drivers.
    [i tried]

Uuuhm, I see some great confusion around the PC domain .
Most probably if someone is asking you to add a web site to "zones", he/she means to add it to the web-browser trusted zones not to your security tools. This is for example to ensure cookies are saved, the web interface works correctly, etc...

Need or not need to install printer drivers: It depends on many factors, for example:

    - How the printer is connected to your LAN (WIFI, Ethernet, attached to a PC)
    - How ZA is set-up
    - Specific hardware/software of the printer and its ability to broadcast its presence over the LAN.

    Thanks,
    Fax

    thanks a lot man.
    you are very kind.
    you are a good man.

you answered all of my questions. i was a little confused/uneducated. you have helped me.
    [problem solved]

you deserve a thumbs up and get a 5 star rating as a moderator for sticking with me through these difficult questions which i did not understand.

    THANK YOU
    take care bro.

"to add a web site to "zones", he/she means to add it to the web-browser trusted zones not to your security tools."
i'll have to look into that. HOW there is a difference between the "za zone" feature and the "web-browser" trusted zones, as you can only have 1 firewall at a time, for proper configuration.
i'm trying to make sense of it all.
    1. za zone security tools =[1 firewall]
    is different than
    2. "web-browser" trusted zones =[2 firewalls, or you don't run/install zone alarm, and only use the 1 firewall of windows instead and do it here: add zone with web site]

    Yes, two completely different things.

When adding a website to your web browser you ask the browser to allow/block specific items of the web page you are loading (scripts, activeX, cookies). So, you will specifically set what to load/not load within a internet website. This has nothing to do with ZA settings to allow/not allow a PC to access/share resources (files, printers, etc) with others.
