DHCP should be set as Trusted and not as public otherwise you don't get to Internet or may loose connection.

The network can be set to public but not the dhcp.

There is some confusion on networks there. Post exactly what you have in your ZA firewall zones.

    Thanks,

I try to delete all IP under Firewall Setting > View Zones, but fail to delete the following one, maybe it is being used. At that time, I fail to post my reply, after stop the network connection and I check this zone again, and it gets nothing left, so I restart network connection, and DHCP IP is established, and IE gets no problem on accessing internet, at this moment, I check that zone, New Network is established without requesting any selection, it is so strange.

When I try a few more times,
    1) stop network connection manually
    2) there is no trusted IP under view zone
    3) restart network connection
    4) get 0.0.0.0 for IP
    5) not able to access internet
    6) stop network connection manually
    7) there is no trusted IP under view zone
    8) restart network connection
    9) get APIPA NETWORK 169.XXX.X.X/255.255.0.0 NETWORK TRUSTED
    10) not able to access internet
    11) stop network connection manually
    12) there is no trusted IP under view zone
    13) restart network connection
    14) get New Network 42.x.xx.0/255.255.255.0 Network Trusted
    15) I am able to access internet to reply this post.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what wrong it could be?
Thanks, to everyone very much for any suggestions :>

    Firewall Setting > View Zones
    New Network 42.x.xx.0/255.255.255.0 Network Trusted

So no router install.Using non-networked PC.

This must be your ISP address.

    Under New Network 42.x.xx.0/255.255.255.0

    Click Edit and Select Public

Do ipconfig /all to see what DHCP Server showing.

The go to Firewall > Advanced Settings > View Zones > Add

Then click Add and select IP Adress.Input the DHCP IP Address to Public. For Description type DHCP Server.Since not on a local area network.

Out of suggestion.Other users welcome to chime in.

    Hi!

169.X is obtained when you PC cannot get any IP from the DHCP. Its a null network. The other one is the real network. If you post such few numbers its difficult to help. There is no need to XXX all numbers. Enough to XXX the last "." (dot).

So, you seem to have system issues aside from ZA. Then better to start from scratch.

    1. Go to XP add/remove programs and remove ZA
    2. Reboot the PC
    3. Turn ON windows firewall
    4. Now check that everything works well. Also take good note of the DHCP IP and DNS servers IPs. How to know your DHCP and DNS IPs?

    a) Start -> Run ->Type "cmd"-> Type "ipconfig /all" and press ENTER

Now take note of the IPs also the IP of the PC

    5. Download ZA from ZA servers:
    http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/...10&action=view

Mind to download the right version!

    6. Install ZA. IMPORTANT: Be sure to have an active internet connection while installing ZA.

Now DO NOT CHANGE any default and post exactly what you see under the ZA firewall zone.

    Thanks,

Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA), when your computer is unable to find a DHCP server,
the APIPA service will assign itself a 169.x.x.x IP address.

Provided ZoneAlarm configured correctly and not a corrupt install.

If your on LAN (local area network). Network Configuration Wizard will detected and place it on the Truste Zone.

    Since ZoneAlarm is two-way firewall.

I tested by bypassing my router.Reboot.Did ipconfig /all does confirm it's my ISP address as a Public address.

Network Configuration Wizard detected New Network and placed it in the Public Zone.

As has being suggest by Guru fax.You have a bad ZA installed.Keep at default settings.

I would like to know on what difference is among 3 following links, their sizes are different.

Furthermore, if I install any old version, but I click update, would I get the latest firewall update? or I need to manually uninstall and download from specifice sites, and install them regularly in order to keep updated firewall version.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks, to everyone very much for any suggestions :>

Both files are basically the same program, the Simple explanation is..

1.) You can download the Smaller WEB ZA Free installer version

2.) The other is The Full sized ZA Installers of ZA Free..

Both files end up installing the same ZA Free version,
the difference would be that the WEB versions is helpful for users who can't handle downloading the Full sized program in one online session..

Sorry, This issue has been discussed several times before..

Sticky: "When will the Next Zone Alarm be made Available?" <= click here

You can Manually Download Product updates for your type of Zone Alarm Product at this link: Download the latest ZA version http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc/...10&action=view
    <== click here

Sorry but The Product Update only works for minor Product updates if Checkpoint Marketing has activated the Update Servers..
Normally Checkpoint turns that Feature off at there Download server, until they are Ready to distribute major updates..
