Default HELP - BLUE SCREEN ERROR - vsdatant.sys

I get following error message in blue screen.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what wrong it is?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions :>

    Window XP with SP3
    ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 13.0.208.000
    Vsmon version: 13.0.208.0
    Driver version: 13.0.208.0

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer
if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
if this screen appears again, follow these steps:
check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message
disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing.
if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.
    STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xA6A6DF14, 0xA5DD3B10, 0x00000000)

You seems not very lucky with the running of ZA. Not sure how you resolved the issue of dropped internet connection from the other thread.

I am afraid that also on this BSOD issue we have no answer to provide as we are all users here and there is no official support for the free version.

This type of error is normally linked to too many security tools hooking at kernel level and therefore a clash between drivers hooking on the OS.

Sorry I cannot add more. As you seem to have several problems with ZA, probably better to test other software that can run correctly on the system.

    Thanks,

There are only 2 major changes recenty
    1) Install the full download version instead of web version of ZA firewall
    2) Change boardband plan for accessing internet from 6MB to 100 MB

Could it be the main cause or would it be just my assumption? too fast bandwidth allows too much attacked from internet.

    Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you very much for any suggestions :>

No, that cannot be. Just try the webinstaller as you did not have that problem. For the rest, sorry I cannot help further.
There is no ZA update site and that link is to the KB. As already mentioned there is no ZA official support for the free version.

In general a bsod or "bug check" points out an issue that is not the direct cause but what went wrong.
It has to be broken down to find the actual problem(s).
STOP: 0x0000008E is generally named a "8e'. The actual code describes the real problem. The codes following "8e" can be further broken down to point to the actual issue(s).

"8e' is more often a hard ware issue with the machines RAM. But do not rule out hard ware drivers and occasionly the BIOS. Even some rootkits/trojans can cause a bsod.
Suggest you test your memory cards!

I am testing the RAM now using memory +86, even through it passes 8 times so far without errors, I may replace a new one next week to see whether this issue continues or not. Furthermore, do you mention BIOS and rootkits/trojans? how can I confirm whether this issue is related to them or not? how to test it?

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks to everyone very much for any suggestions

Btw, there is also a free utility to help you reading BSOD data. Here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...reenView.shtml

Never tried but in case you still have this problem you can check it...

To help ZoneAlarm improve its product in later releases its helpful if you would submit your logs and BSOD info.

By doing so does not mean you will get a fix or even a reply. We use this data to improve future releases.

If you would like to contribute to making ZoneAlarm a better product here are the directions how to submit diagnostic logs for a BSOD type of situation.

    - Configure ZA diagnostic told to collect BSOD error logs.

    • Go to Start >> All Programs >> Check Point >> ZoneAlarm
    • Open the ZoneAlarm Diagnostics Tool
    • Under Logging Check all 3 boxes
    • Click OK
    • Your prompted to reboot PC for changes to be in effect.
    • Now you must reboot your PC manually.
    • After reboot, use your PC as you would normally until the BSOD happens again.
    • Allow the BSOD to finish writing out its data and it will reboot your PC when done.
    • After it has rebooted from the BSOD open the Diagnostic tool again
    • Click on the Collect Data button
    • Input your email address in the space provided.
    • In the Case Number field input - BSOD
    • Move the collection level slider all the way to the right toward More Data.
    • Click OK
    • The tool will now gather all data and compress it and then upload it to our developers.

After you get a message that says it was succesfully completed or uploaded come back to the forum and PM (Private Message) me and let me know you email address and I will make sure we get this data.

Thank you for taking the time to do this if you so decide to.

This issue is solved by purchasing a router with firewall.

It seems that my PC's ram cannot handle too much attacks from internet, so it causes blue screen, now the route'w firewall takes this job, and handle it well, and there is nothing wrong with ZA.

Thanks, to everyone very much for suggestions :>
