    I'd like to know why vsmon.exe has this many ports open and why it needs any ports open at all.

    Hello;
    Welcome to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

    I would like to know the following information..

    It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country, or around the World,
    without All the Details about your computer it's Software and what type and Version of Zone Alarm that you failed to provide, without our ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

    *** NOTICE:

    Whenever posting here, it is always advisable to list Full details of your Computer:

    Right click the ZA icon near the clock --> About --> Copy to Clipboard --> Paste in a reply here. Mind to remove the license key (if applicable).

    Exact version of OS used? XP SP?, Windows 7 SP?. Windows 8?8.1? English version?
    Other security running on the PC? Laptop?

    Since when you are experiencing the problem? Did ZA ever worked correctly?

    More information you post more likely other users here will be able to help and suggest potential remedial actions.

    .
    How do you connect to the Internet: Phone Line, Cable Modem, Router, Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth?

    The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

    is this a First time install?
    Stopped working recently?
    any other issues?
    any Error messages in the ZA logs?

    and what are the steps you took to reproduce the problem.

    also is this a Desktop, Laptop computer or Netbook;

    The More information you post the more likely users here will be able to understand the issue and try to help.

    First of all please note that we are all users here no ZA development staff.

    Secondly Vsmon.exe is the main firewall component in-between all of your local/internet PC communication. You will often see this component connections. Most of the time is not vsmon initiated connections but PC connections that ultimately are managed by vsmon as it filters all inbound/outbound data. So some of those links seems connected to your browser others to your system, simply impossible to say unless you are in front of the system.

    If you start to worry about ZA then its best you remove it and find an alternative solution that you can trust and feel comfortable with. The worst that can happen to users is that they get paranoid about their own security setup rather than on the real external threats. Not good not worth the time spent.

    To know exactly what happen on the PC you first need an advance knowledge of networks and diagnostic tools secondly you will need to known exactly how ZA works. This is something that I am afraid only ZA development staff can know

    You will need to use external tools like wireshark, process explorer and tcpip view. But this is simply offtopic for this board as we are only dealing with common ZA product related issues.

    Thanks,
    Fax
