Default [SOLVED] XP desktop locked out, upgrading to Extreme Security

I just upgraded to Extreme Security and the computer worked fine for a short while, then after I switched off for the night and rebooted the following morning, the PC appears to be locked out.

The boot-up process appears to go through ok, but once complete I just get the desktop background image, I do not get any icons or the taskbar.

Consequently I am unable to run any programs at all, so I can't even uninstall. The issue persists with any attempted login, even in safe mode.

    Help..!

    Hello;

I would therefore suggest that you contact directly the ZA technical support a the link in my signature
, look for the live chat icon ("contact us") at the main ZA support site. Its free for registered users.

Try to follow all troubleshooting steps Support will suggest and always report back to Support Lice Chat with positive of negative results.

If you manage to resolve the issue please come back here as your input (other than removing ZA) may help other users with similar problems .

    Thanks,

Hi thanks for the reply. Problem is I don't see a signature in your reply with a link in it and the only link mentioning live chat I can find takes me to the company providing the live chat software..!

    Link to support: http://www.zonealarm.com/support
Once at the main ZA support site look for the icon with written "contact us"

You may want to start in safe mode and choose the last known configuration, see here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852

If you are able to recover the system remember first to remove ZA from XP "add/remove programs" before installing the latest ZA version.

Also note that Microsoft has ended any support to the XP operating system since the beginning of April.

    Thanks,
    Fax

    Hi all

Ok well I finally managed to get in to safe mode and did a system restore followed by an uninstall and reinstall, which hopefully has solved the problem.

I'll keep the forum posted on any developments.

    Thanks for everyone's help
