    Sorry, just to avoid any misunderstanding when I say: "think about another antivirus" I don't suggest adding a new but replacing it. As you should never fall into the temptation to run two antiviruses at the same time. Bad for the system and for the protection.

    Yeah, I know not to use overlapping security apps.

    I was using ZAP 8 with Norton NAV 2008 for 6+ years and never had a problem with a virus/malware, but then I had to upgrade from WinXP.

    So I am trying to keep the same combo because it's worked well for me in the past.

    Unfortunately;

    Security Apps that worked well together 6-7 years ago, may be bitter competitors and conflict with each other today..

    It's called Technology Creep.. many AntiSpyWare and even some Anti-virus apps have gradually added new features that may conflict or compete with many features in Zone Alarm, many antispyware programs have added Firewall or Registry Blocking features that are not compatible with Zone Alarm..

    Best advise, DO NOT change the default setting of ZoneAlarm.

    You said your not a network expert. Don't assume a setting means this or that if you dont 100% know.

    ZoneAlarm is maximized for the best security right out of the box without changing any setting. 99% of the time people just get in trouble and cause issues by changing the setting and think its all ZA fault.
