Default Windows Explorer (not IE) almost totally unuseable

I've recently switched from Norton to Zone Alarm. Given my computer problems, I ran a full scan with ZA. It found one adaware item and dealt with it.

While some of my computer problems were solved by the switch, the Windows Explorer just is unreliable and hardly functioning at all.

For example, I will click on a Word file to open it. Rather than open it, it attempts to do some kind of search, the progress of which gets slower the longer it runs. Often it does nothing, occasionally, while I am doing something else, the file will open after a significant period (say, half an hour).

Is Zone Alarm equipped to resolve this problem? If so, how do I go about implementing the solution?

    I'm using Windows 7.

I am afraid its best to have your logs reviewed by volunteers malware experts at or spywarehammer.

I would also double check that left overs from previous security solutions are not exacerbating your problems.
