Default What is downloaded every time I connect to the Internet

I am using Zonealarm Security suite 13.1.211.000 with Windows 8.1.
I have been trying to find what is down and up loaded every time I connect to the internet.
I have or at least tried to set Microsoft Update to make me ask if Updates are available and also for Apps. I have been through all Application Control Settings to make Trust Level, Outbound and Inbound Internet to Ask.
Zonealarm Privacy shows but no other Zonalarm actions and Firefox does not appear in the list.
I have Zonealarm and Malware Bytes up to date and have done deep scans.
I hardly ever had a virus alert and Malware Bytes warns me now again about some programs that should be removed.
Why cannot stop the regular approx upload of .25 MB and download of .5 MB?
    Thanks, Ron.

The best is to have your logs inspected by volunteers malware experts to ensure no malware is installed on the system. You can do that at bleepingcomputer and spywarehammer. Links here:
    https://www.zonealarm.com/forums/sho...an-up-Guidance

Then you can check with MS tools like TCPView and process explorer:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb897437
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb896653

to understand better who does what as what you describe can be perfectly normal. For example, ZA will download antivirus updates after each boot and many other tools will connect to home.

    Thanks,

I have tried out a number of programs including Netstat and Tcpview.
These give a host of info. However Netbalancer has been the best. It shows the total bytes downloaded and uploaded since the connection was enabled.
However it shows most of the traffic being in Vsmon with smaller amounts in Service Traffic, svchost.exe and System.
Thus Vsmon (Zonealarm) controls all traffic that we initiate with browser, email etc.
It would be useful if Zonealarm was able to show what that traffic was.
I surmise that the early traffic after connecting to the net and doing nothing else (up to 1MB) is Zonealarm checking latest info on spam. This is directed towards use of Microsoft email clients.
This is different from updating of virus info and Windows and other updates which I control to occur when I want them (regularly).
My email is with Winpmail (used for more than 15 years).
Therefore I do not see how this spam info could be used by me.
I have never had any problems with this, even Winpmail alerts to suspicious stuff.
If I disconnect from the net and then open again in the day I get the same amounts of download.
How can I stop this and is my surmise correct?

Sorry all users here and we have no access whatsoever on how ZA is designed and why certain operations are performed. So, we cannot even assess if your question and content is at all correct.

I assume this can only be answered by the ZA development team, I am not aware of a way to contact them directly, sorry. We was never designed to sniff internet traffic for you.
It will never have this feature either.

With ZA install all internt traffic passes through it. (VSMON)

Maybe find an app that is better at figuring out the origins of the app on your PC.

Or uninstall ZA and then use the same tools to find out what app is the issue.

Thanks, I thought that Zonealarm could not do it. The only stuff that does not seem to go through Vsmon is Service traffic and svchost. I might try a one off disable of zonealarm as suggested. Ron

I have done extensive research on this problem using netstat and other more advanced methods.
I noticed that Firefox had info on what it downloads. This included my history. I stopped this and most of the unexplained activity has disappeared.
I am left with what Zonealarm gets when an internet connection is made. I note the Anti-spam which is to stop junk email in Microsoft Ourlook and Outlook Express. I have this turned off as I do not use these. Would Zonealarm still be doing these downloads?
I note many references to TIME WAITS on a23-215-237-70.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com:https which seems to be involved with Zonealarm.
There are also ones to amazonaus.com
    Any comments?
    Ron
