Subject: ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware Misled Me into Thinking That My Windows 10 Version 1703 Has Been Hacked Again?

    Hi everyone,

I downloaded ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware on 22 July 2017 Sat 9.26 AM and proceeded to install it.

10 mins later, at 9.36 AM, I discovered the following files and folders in my Documents folder:

    1. Folder 00Fin
    1.1 MyDocjeh.docx
    1.2 MyDocsun.doc

    2. jthaaa.txt

    3. wahoogsao.rtf

All of the above files and folders have the time stamp of 22 July 2017 9.36 AM.

I did some research on the internet and found the following posts and articles:

    1. Frustration with E80.70 anti-ransomware undocumented feature

    https://www.cpug.org/forums/showthre...mented-feature

I thought my Windows 10 Version 1703 Creators Update has been hacked again.

Can somebody from Microsoft and Check Point confirm that the above files and folders were indeed created by ZoneAlarm Anti-Ransomware???

    Thank you very much.

Welcome to the ZA user forum!

We are all users here, helping each other (apart from the forum moderator). One question related to your request. Did ZA anti-ransomware displayed any warning about ransomware? I am not clear how could you be mislead by ZA anti-ransomware unless there was a warning by the tool of a detected threat into your PC.

From all the links you have provided the only one which seems related is the first one (checkpoint forum) which seems to indicated that those files are linked to the checkpoint anti-ransomware.

I would simply remove those files and see if they are re-created. Most probably a check by the tool at install to ensure it is able to access, read and write into the document folder.

Unless others users know more you should contact, free of charge, the official ZA technical support at the link at the top of this forum. I doubt they will be aware of this behaviour as the tool has just been released. But nothing to loose to check.

    Thanks,
